What is depression?

Depression, or depressive disorder, is considered a mood disorder. It’s often characterized by symptoms that affect day-to-day life. Episodes of depression tend to follow stressful or traumatic situations. Some symptoms of depression include:

  • Extended period of sadness

  • Changes in appetite

  • Feeling indifferent

  • Lack of energy and feeling lethargic

  • High levels of anger, worry and anxiety

What is burnout?

Burnout is typically attributed to overcommitments related to your career, family, caregiving or parenting. In many cases, people feel better once they are removed from the stressor. Burnout is common in occupations such as healthcare and other service-related jobs. Burnout symptoms may include:

  • Brain fog

  • Frequent headaches

  • Difficulty sleeping

  • Apathy and/or reduced productivity
